Course Description

Nursing is a dynamic and challenging profession. Over the past few decades, nurses have gradually adopted higher responsibilities from just being a doctor’s assistant to an integral member of the life-saving team of the hospital. Further, they need to coordinate and communicate with their team for better patient care. For assuming these higher and ever-changing roles in demanding healthcare environment, the core competencies are of utmost importance for the nursing profession. Competency based Nursing education bridge the gap between policy and practice by ensuring quality of care in the health care systems, which aims at strengthening the nursing professionals.

 

Keeping this in view, a three-month online ‘Competency Based Nursing Education and Core Competencies of Nursing Educator’ under the overall umbrella of International Public Health Management Development Program (IPHMDP) has been conceptualized to enhance the knowledge and skills needed by senior nursing staff to be an effective manager in the healthcare settings, and equipping them with an in-depth understanding of competency based nursing education and core competencies that can be suitably applied in the field of nursing.

 

During the course, the participants will be exposed to topics ranging from Principles of adult learning, Curriculum and implementation, Nursing practice, Research and evidence, ethical/legal principles and professionalism, monitoring and evaluation, management, leadership and advocacy and many more.

The teaching will be done through a multi-pronged adult learning pedagogy comprising live lectures, reading materials, and interactive sessions. Tests will be conducted at the end of each module. Besides this, the participants will be engaged with their peers in the discussion forums, and undertake practicum/assignments. The program faculties are eminent healthcare management professionals and experts from various public and private healthcare organizations, health care program leaders from national and international agencies, faculty from Centres of Excellence in the healthcare and management sector

 

At the end of course, the participants should be able to

  1. Apply core competency learnt during the program in their day-to-day practice for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of their organization.
  2. Demonstrate competencies of a nursing educator in the organization and transfer them to their peers and junior colleagues for creating an organizational culture and delivering quality healthcare.
  3. Integrate knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to leadership and management in providing professional nursing care in diverse healthcare environments.
